Post Hoc Ergo Propter Hoc
Reuters Bernd Debusmann writes that gun sales in America are increasing along with economic anger.
The Czar is well aware that gun sales are increasing, and Debusmann gets the reason correct: a notoriously anti-gun Senator is elected President, with rumors of severe limits and restrictions forthcoming (the Czar has yet to see anything substantive on that front, but hey…aint nothing wrong with buying a weapon anyway).
However, he also appears to link it to some brewing social unrest that should have happened here in the States. Must bother Europeans to see Americans buying guns in a bad economy, because that can only mean…what, some crazy shotguns-in-the-streets rioting? How little we know about our American cousins.
Americans certainly think the country is headed in the wrong direction. Yes, the President is not as popular as he is supposed to be, according to latest opinion polls. And sure, lots of good people are losing their jobs and many are losing their homes.
But Debusmann paints a picture of refugee camps, of (gasp) white people losing jobs (the Czar sees some hidden racism in his surprise), and homeless people pouring into the streets. If this is true, where is the American media coverage on any of this? Maybe because Debusmann is exaggerating the circumstances to paint this picture of America on the brink?
Then he cites the increase in FBI background checks. Of course, he adds, …there are no statistics on how many guns are bought by people who think they need them to defend themselves against desperate fellow citizens.
No, there are not. And why not? Because the two have nothing to do with each other.
Euro-elitist academics, take note: American is not on the brink of huge social unrest. We are not buying weapons because we expect some post-apocalyptic revolt against CEOs of day trading firms. No, we are not going into pre-socialist anarchy. Socialism had its day here in the US, and it failed quietly and miserably. And we are not terribly interested in its return.
Божію Поспѣшествующею Милостію Мы, Дима Грозный Императоръ и Самодержецъ Всероссiйскiй, цѣсарь Московскiй. The Czar was born in the steppes of Russia in 1267, and was cheated out of total control of all Russia upon the death of Boris Mikhailovich, who replaced Alexander Yaroslav Nevsky in 1263. However, in 1283, our Czar was passed over due to a clerical error and the rule of all Russia went to his second cousin Daniil (Даниил Александрович), whom Czar still resents. As a half-hearted apology, the Czar was awarded control over Muscovy, inconveniently located 5,000 miles away just outside Chicago. He now spends his time seething about this and writing about other stuff that bothers him.
