Iran: Get smarter with Reuel Gerecht.
Here in the Standard. Here in the NYT.
Mr. Gerecht notes that “Command the good; forbid the evil,” has been the religious-ideological justification for the “Islamic Republic.” One wonders if the ḥadîth, “My community will never agree upon an error,” might serve the same purpose in legitimating real democracy among clerics. Generally, this Tradition has had a bit more prestige among the majority Sunnî than the minority Shî‘a, but perhaps in a largely Shî‘ite country like Iran that history might be passed over.
Don’t ask impertinent questions like that jackass Adept Lu.
