Re: A Harmless Question
‘Puter asks why, when the US manufacturing industry is effectively the same size as the health care industry, would the public accept government control of the latter, but almost certainly not the former? Rather, why does the goverment think it should take over healthcare?
The Czar knows the answer to this. In the cognitive dissonant mental state of the Obama-led Democrats, they have a moral imperative to do so because they believe every human being has a right to free healthcare.
Three things.
1. Do humans have a fundamental right to healthcare? The Czar believes this is morally vague. As part of the Constitution, we believe humans have a right to free speech, no government interference or endorsement of religion, a free press, a right to self-defense of life and property, and so on. Our readers probably know the Bill of Rights better than most people already. Please note these rights have something in common: they can be applied to all people equally and unequivocally. The Czar would argue that the right to medical treatment to live a quality life could be a reasonable argument…if it could be equally and unequivocally supplied. For example, no matter who you are, the federal government really cannot tell you to shut up…your opinion is just as good as anyone else’s (even ‘Puter’s). So the right to free speech is an easy right. But no matter who you are, the government cannot sensibly assure you will get the best care for your condition and particular circumstances. Therefore, while a right to healthcare may be a fundamental right, there is no way of universally enforcing it as we can with the other fundamental rights. In that respect, there is something wrong with this assumption.
2. Based on that, the government cannot deny you healthcare either. So in that respect, you do have the right. And indeed, no one in this country is denied healthcare…even if they cannot pay a dime. The Mandarin’s wife had some extended relatives in from another country a few years back…while here, the poor guy came down with acute appendicitis. He was treated, released, and given top quality medical care. Cost to him? Zero. He was not even an American citizen, and he got the best care there is for free. No one in the US is denied healthcare, as is about as far as this right can sensibly go, Talk of poor people “dying in the streets” shows how far deluded the Democrats are, since it does not happen now and would not in the future under non-ObamaCare.
3. Do humans have a fundamental right to free healthcare? This is the actual crux of their argument. Not healthcare in general…every American has that already. The question is whether they should pay for it, or if the government should pay for it. This is a specious argument (follow along carefully here), because (a) Most Americans pay for their own healthcare and (b) they also pay for the few who do not. In other words, Americans pay for healthcare either out of their own pocket or through lower wages (i.e., their employers pay on their behalf).
The few who do not have a healthcare plan still receive it anyway. So who pays for them? All of us, through our taxes.
The irony is that we have, to date, achieved all the imputed goals of ObamaCare: the best of the best, with no one excluded, as inexpensively as possible under the circumstances.
So what does the Democrat plan do differently? It allows the government 100% control over healthcare. In other words, instead of paying for your own healthcare plus a little bit in your taxes, you pay 100% in taxes. This does not automatically translate to lower costs (which is the basis of the CBO’s objections) or higher wages. All it changes is who is in charge: the American people or the American government. So there is NO upside to ObamaCare; there is only a theoretical break-even, or a more probable massive deficit.
Back to ‘Puter. So the difference between manufacturing and healthcare is this: the Democrats do not believe that Americans have a right to free manufacturing (maybe if Europe did, the Dems would too). They claim, mistakenly as demonstrated above, to believe Americans should receive free healthcare at taxpayer expense. If the Democrats could be bothered to understand how their own country functions, they would see their claim fails to hold water.
P.S. ‘Puter’s Family Travels, or “Why One Should Never Travel Without A Grocery Bag And Brawny Paper Towels.” might be better titled “Why One Should Never Travel with ‘Puter.” WTF!
Божію Поспѣшествующею Милостію Мы, Дима Грозный Императоръ и Самодержецъ Всероссiйскiй, цѣсарь Московскiй. The Czar was born in the steppes of Russia in 1267, and was cheated out of total control of all Russia upon the death of Boris Mikhailovich, who replaced Alexander Yaroslav Nevsky in 1263. However, in 1283, our Czar was passed over due to a clerical error and the rule of all Russia went to his second cousin Daniil (Даниил Александрович), whom Czar still resents. As a half-hearted apology, the Czar was awarded control over Muscovy, inconveniently located 5,000 miles away just outside Chicago. He now spends his time seething about this and writing about other stuff that bothers him.
