Down for the Count
Imagine your Mandarin’s shock and dismay over this headline – Immigration Activists Urge Census Boycott – from The Boston Globe.
So let me try to wrap my mind around this:
• Illegal immigrants want to boycott the 2010 census to protest the government’s refusal for blanket amnesty. So what this basically boils down to is that we have a group of individuals that don’t legally belong here and that refuse to be counted in an effort to force the government to give them amnesty for their violation of federal immigration laws.
• State officials are concerned that by not counting the illegal immigrant populations in their states, that there would be a reduction in federal funding that may require them to cut services. Well if there is a reduction in funding I’m sure that by not providing these “social services” to the illegal immigrant population they may save a buck or two. This may also discourage the sanctuary city movement since there would no longer be the financial incentive to ignore the federal immigration laws.
• With the reduced census counts, states may lose seats in Congress. And the down side to this is what, the reduction in the number of liberal/progressive politicians in Congress.
The unmitigated gall and audacity of these illegal immigrant groups is just another example of the progressive movement and their belief that those that have violated the law are entitled to the same rights and privileges as native born citizens and those who entered this country by legal means. In fact, I would fathom a guess that the progressives see the need for a blanket amnesty program not as a means of social justice, but as a way to punish the evil United States for being prosperous at the perceived expense of the home countries that these illegal immigrants hail from.
The Mandarin, whose real name is 吏恆, joined the order in 1309, and introduced the Gormogons into England during the 18th Century.
The Mandarin enjoys spending time with his pet manticore, Βάρἰκος, or Barry (who can be found in the Bestiary). When not in the Castle…well, frankly, nobody is quite sure where he goes.
The Mandarin popularized the fine art of “gut booting,” by which he delivers a powerful kick to the stomach of anyone that annoys him. Although nearly universal today, the act of gut booting or threatening someone or something with a gut boot is solely due to him.
