Obama: Any Real Accomplishments?
What has President Obama actually accomplished while in office?
The Czar is having a difficult time finding much. While spending time on Democratic and pro-Obama websites, there were quite a few lists that had much in common. But, alas, these lists were more wish lists of things the President wanted to do.
For example, many of the lists feature Healthcare reform, although the President has yet to get anything like a competent bill before the publics review. Others list Closing Guantanamo, although again, that has yet to happenand the President is nervously looking around to see if there is a way to disprove the notion that Bush nailed it by using Gitmo as a holding facility. Others list things like Ended torture, Reset American diplomacy and respect abroad, and Finance reform. Well, okay, but what tangible accomplishments were there? So far, things are so equivocal that more conservative sites like this one are able to make plausible mockeries out of all of these things.
Now, before we start changing words around, let us be clear: an accomplishment is something that he has done, not promised to do, not meant to do, not wanted to do but Bush screwed it up. Accomplishments do not mean started to do, either, or else the Czars father-in-law would be the most accomplished person alive.
Out of respect for the President, we should also discount things he has done but mean little, such as appearing on talk shows, televising speeches to Americans, or making videos to school kids about staying in school. And no one frankly considers non-tangible things as real, such as inspiring a new generation of Americans to racial blather, so stop that now. These things merely underscore the oppositions attitudes that he is more Paris Hilton than King Solomon.
So what has he done? He reversed an executive order on stem cell research, but we already know that this merely approves some limited funding issues on a branch of research that proved unproductive. That would be a partial point.
He has gotten some, but not all, stimulus funding moving. The Czar has seen a few streets paved with stimulus dollars (maybe literally), or at the very least saw the Obama logo stamped on road construction signage. A street in Muscovy is not pothole free thanks to a partial funding from the stimulus effort.
The Czar is not alone. PolitiFact is doing a pretty good job of listing his promises and rating his accomplishments. According tho them, he has kept many more campaign promises than he broke! However, the vast majority are either incomplete or inactive. Of the promises kept, most of them are fairly localized, from building schools in New Orleans to getting his daughters that puppy.
But keeping campaign promises is not the extent of a Presidents job. Obama made no promises about ending Irans nuclear terrorism but is failing there anyway. Nor did he promise to bring the Olympics to Chicago, which was an international gaffe of (dare we say) Olympian proportions. Nor did he promise to settle the Israel/Palestine issue…which is rearing up and biting him.
So what has he done that benefits the country as a whole? Missile shields? Bowing to Saudi royalty? Apologizing to the UN for America? He is almost a quarter through his first (and quite practically last) term in officeby this point in presidential history:
· George W. Bush united and galvanized the country after 9/11
· Bill Clinton launched a missile attach at Baghdad, saw the signing of the Oslo peace accord, and responded to the crisis in Somalia
· George H.W. Bush pulled the Savings and Loan industry out of certain ruin, oversaw the fall of the Berlin Wall; and responded to the Chinese democracy protests
· Ronald Reagan saw the Iranian hostages released, inspired the country by his rapid recovery from a gunshot wound, passed tax cuts, and appointed the first woman justice
· Jimmy Carter pardoned Vietnam War draft dodgers, delivered his famous cardigan sweater speech, kills the B-1 bomber program, signed away the Panama Canal to the wrong people, dealt with some scandals by members of his staff, and angered Egyptians, Jordanians, and Israelis by trying to manipulate the Middle East peace talks in Geneva as a way to appease the Soviets.
Well. Which president do you think President Obama is moving closest to be?
Божію Поспѣшествующею Милостію Мы, Дима Грозный Императоръ и Самодержецъ Всероссiйскiй, цѣсарь Московскiй. The Czar was born in the steppes of Russia in 1267, and was cheated out of total control of all Russia upon the death of Boris Mikhailovich, who replaced Alexander Yaroslav Nevsky in 1263. However, in 1283, our Czar was passed over due to a clerical error and the rule of all Russia went to his second cousin Daniil (Даниил Александрович), whom Czar still resents. As a half-hearted apology, the Czar was awarded control over Muscovy, inconveniently located 5,000 miles away just outside Chicago. He now spends his time seething about this and writing about other stuff that bothers him.
