There is an extremely high probability that the manager and coaching staff were discussing their expectations before the game, which is not uncommon when a new player joins the team. In theory, they should discuss the stats of each player before every game, but if they did, half of the big stars would be benched for non-performance.
Anyhow, the Czar easily envisions the manager saying “So what’s this kid gonna do for me today?” The batting coach says “You give him a good low inside pitch, and he’ll plunk it into the seats. Here, look at his chart.”
One hour later, the interview takes place.
