Out-of-Memory Lane
What a weird way to kill some time.
Not that this is not valuable for its rich historical content, but it is weird to the Czar because he spent way more time here than he intended. The Czar first touched a TRS-80 in about 1979 or so when learned how to lock it up by looping it with a GOTO 1 command. He first learned to do something vaguely useful in 1981, when high school felt that all students need to learn BASIC on an Apple ][ (command prompt only). The Czar had no aptitude for programming, and did not get to word process until WordStar hit a nearby PC in 1982. Since then, it has been a long strange ride.
And therein is a website that shows the operating systems for most personal computers. Many, the Czar had forgotten about. Many, the Czar would like to. Click on the underlined links to see a neat walkthrough of lots of screenshots, or click on the OS name to the left to learn even more.
The screen shot above is for the first Mac the Czar touched, running System 4.2. That may be actual size.
And below is the Czar’s most frequent memory of System 7.0.
Poor Ghettoputer is still a DOS 3.3 user.
Божію Поспѣшествующею Милостію Мы, Дима Грозный Императоръ и Самодержецъ Всероссiйскiй, цѣсарь Московскiй. The Czar was born in the steppes of Russia in 1267, and was cheated out of total control of all Russia upon the death of Boris Mikhailovich, who replaced Alexander Yaroslav Nevsky in 1263. However, in 1283, our Czar was passed over due to a clerical error and the rule of all Russia went to his second cousin Daniil (Даниил Александрович), whom Czar still resents. As a half-hearted apology, the Czar was awarded control over Muscovy, inconveniently located 5,000 miles away just outside Chicago. He now spends his time seething about this and writing about other stuff that bothers him.
