The recent spate of retirement announcements (Bayh) and rumors (Mikulski) has gotten me thinking that Congress will pass the Senate bill and then tweak it via reconciliation during the lame-duck session when these retirees won’t give a flip.

The good Doctor could well be right—our only hope is that enough Democrats have the bejesus scared out of them by the prospect of getting a real job that they wimp out. As so often happens, an analect of the great sage Maurice “Snoopy” Miller comes to mind.
