The arrogance of the Obama administration is unparalleled.
It isn’t so much that they don’t get it. It’s that they think you don’t get it. But Americans are way smarter than Gibbs assumes.
Poll numbers show that the President is doing a crappy job. In fact, poll numbers show that a staggering and sobering amount of Americans believe:
—The Stimulus Package was a bad move.
—The Constitution should not be tampered with. In fact, we need more restrictions on government, not on business.
—The healthcare reform bill should be repealed.
—The GOP is more honest and trustworthy than Democrats, by a margin big enough to shit the pants of any Democrat counting on moderates and centrists.
—Further, the Chicago Sun-Times reports on their cover story that Americans no longer believe the administration on its economic program. And that blacks and Hispanics are suffering the worst: these were folks key to Democratic victories in 2008. Think they still blame George Bush for their ongoing nightmare?
The opinion polls look just as bad on nearly every other topic you name. Foreign policy? The President gets a no confidence vote (particularly over Afghanistan). The BP oil spill? The President’s numbers look like the Gulf. A $2 billion pledge for green jobs? People are starting to sicken every time the President says anything that ends with -illion, knowing that it would be less expensive just to set fire to a pile of money.
The President is running out of time, money, and—worse—true believers. He is below 50% on every single primary, secondary, and tertiary policy issue. Even the normally whackjob commenters in political blogs are being clearly outnumbered by the “I’ve had enough of Obama” contributers. In fact, those who still hate the GOP are treating Obama as “Bush’s third term.”
Even Nero would have had enough sense to stop fiddling if he was burning.
