Beating the Bushes For Candidates
Maybe you heard. The Republicans could potentially win the Senate. In fact, the Czar thinks the odds of this are much better than the media is reporting. No, its no done deal, but its moved past theoretically plausible into strong possibility.
As you next suspect, every possible victory for a Republican senator is a necessary one. There just arent enough Senatorial seats up to ensure victory; but there are enough up there to make it doable. So, yes, every election here will count.
And as you might then conclude, you want to run really good candidates. We have already seen some strongly conservative candidates shoot up to wide margins. Even in heavily Democratic enclaves, we see conservative candidates breaking even. That shows how strong the candidate pool is.
So can someone explain to the Czar what the foxtrot Christine ODonnell is doing running in the GOP primary in Delaware? ODonnell, recently endorsed by Palin, DeMint, and the NRA, is taking on Rep. Mike Castle (R-DE) for Joe Bidens old job. By all polling numbers, Castle is a shoe-in for the job; ODonnell is seeing her numbers climb, which means votes are being taken away from Castle. Indeed, if ODonnell wins, the outlook is clear that the GOP will lose this race bad.
But whats wrong with Castle? Well, he isnt seen as a strong conservative. Hes part of that old guard GOP that the Tea Party is trying to vote out; although he has voted pretty consistently on core conservative issues, he has voted with Democrats on other issues.
And to some of the folks in the Tea Party, thats a disaster. So ODonnell is the better candidate, yes?
Let us consider this carefully.
She appears to make only $5,800 a year despite a lucrative career as a marketing consultant. No need to tip the IRS off that theres some potential fraud here: she owes almost $12 grand in backtaxes, and defaulted on a mortgage she didnt feel like paying.
Ouch. No, pleaseit gets worse. In addition to claiming herself a 1993 college graduate, it turns out she only graduated…ahem…last week. But that isnt the only lie shes told. She was embarrassed live during a radio interview when a talk show host questioned her claim that she won two counties against Biden in 2008. Delaware has three counties. Yet, the poll numbers show she got only 35% of the vote. Ah, she acknowledged on the air, she meant to say she tied him, then.
So maybe she has no concept of math, being in marketing and all. But evidently she is also a paranoid whackjob. She claims to have staff members check the landscaping thoroughly around every venue she enters, including her own home, to check for opponents hiding in the bushes. Not figuratively, pal: literally. She has made numerous references to this, and evidently believesquite earnestlythat unspecified opponents (presumably political) are hiding in bushes all around her.
Perhaps she is the GOP answer to weirdly popular Senate candidate Alvin Green of South Carolina?
Божію Поспѣшествующею Милостію Мы, Дима Грозный Императоръ и Самодержецъ Всероссiйскiй, цѣсарь Московскiй. The Czar was born in the steppes of Russia in 1267, and was cheated out of total control of all Russia upon the death of Boris Mikhailovich, who replaced Alexander Yaroslav Nevsky in 1263. However, in 1283, our Czar was passed over due to a clerical error and the rule of all Russia went to his second cousin Daniil (Даниил Александрович), whom Czar still resents. As a half-hearted apology, the Czar was awarded control over Muscovy, inconveniently located 5,000 miles away just outside Chicago. He now spends his time seething about this and writing about other stuff that bothers him.
