If this is so, no other word leaps to mind. Not having read the cables in question, one doesn’t know if the British press is exaggerating, but if we actually traded UK national-security information to the Russians in exchange for that relatively worthless arms treaty, it’s inexcusable and unforgivable. One hopes that there was some secret agreement with the British to feed the Russians lies, but given this Administration’s record with the British and open-handed attitude towards tyrannies, it is not unimaginable that in some twisted, curdled hybrid of anti-colonialism and arms-control logic this would somehow make sense to a left-wing sensibility.

Let’s hope it’s not true.
