More on Ryan’s Proposal
Operative GD writes in with the quick spot on Ezra Klein’s propganda business blog section piece on Paul Ryan’s (D-WI) budget proposal. It’s got some real gems in it. Try some of these on for size:
Remember how the Affordable Care Act was really, really, really long? There was a reason for that. It was full of delivery-system reforms meant to make the health-care system cheaper and more efficient.
How many times in your lives have you seen a legal document “really, really, really long” make something “cheaper and more efficient?” The U.S. Tax Code? Right, thought so.
Of course, a piece like this wouldn’t be complete without a little fear-mongering:
Right now, the federal government shares Medicaid costs with the states. That means their payments increase or decrease with Medicaid’s actual rate of spending. Under a block grant system, that’d stop. They’d simply give states a lump sum at the beginning of the year and that’d have to suffice. And if a recession hits and more people need Medicaid or a nasty flu descends and lots of disabled beneficiaries end up in the hospital with pneumonia? Too bad.
Did Mr. Klein fail to notice that the states are begging for money from the feds to help with the new ObamaCare….oh I mean, Affordable Care Act?
Ryan did what many politicians in D.C. are afraid to do – he reached for the third rail…and grabbed it hard. He’s tackling what makes up $1.9T of the federal spending in 2010.

The profits from this pay all the Gormogons’ bills, including subsidizing this website. Some of the products he has introduced from the future include oven mitts, the Guinness widget, Oxy-Clean, and Dr. Pepper. Due to his immense cybernetic brain, GorT is able to produce a post in 0.023 seconds and research it in even less time. Only ’Puter spends less time on research. GorT speaks entirely in zeros and ones, but occasionally throws in a ڭ to annoy the Volgi. He is a massive proponent of science, technology, and energy development, and enjoys nothing more than taking the Czar’s more interesting scientific theories, going into the past, publishing them as his own, and then returning to take credit for them. He is the only Gormogon who is capable of doing math. Possessed of incredible strength, he understands the awesome responsibility that follows and only uses it to hurt people.
