Operation Overlord: 67 Years Ago
Sixty seven years ago at 0630 British Double Summer Time (GMT+2), the largest amphibious assualt began when over 155,000 Allied troops began to storm a 50-mile stretch of the beaches of Normandy, France (Utah and Omaha began at 0630 and Sword and Gold began an hour later). Thus began Operation Neptune, the first phase of Operation Overlord – the code name for the invasion of the Nazi-occupied mainland Europe from the northwest. Current estimates (from the US National D-Day Memorial Foundation) places the number of deaths around 4,414 allied dead – note “casualty” usually refers to dead, wounded, missing in action, and POWs.
Also note the timezone notation above – British Double Summer Time. During World War II, Britain kept their hour advance of GMT but also added on another hour during the summers. No, ‘Puter, it isn’t anything like “double secret probation”.
It strikes me that the leadership requried to plan, execute and maintain the political will behind these decisions is one that I doubt could happen with our current crop of leaders.

He is a massive proponent of science, technology, and energy development, and enjoys nothing more than taking the Czar’s more interesting scientific theories, going into the past, publishing them as his own, and then returning to take credit for them. He is the only Gormogon who is capable of doing math. Possessed of incredible strength, he understands the awesome responsibility that follows and only uses it to hurt people.
