I was 100% with you, right up until you dragged his poor, pregnant (according to the interwebs), suffering wife into the discussion. I totally agree he is compromised and represents a serious threat to security (just like Clinton, Kennedy, or any other politician with horrible secrets… Republican or Democrat). My pause is this… even if he resigns, he could still influence his wife. Even if he is not a US Representative, we both know he will not crawl under a rock and disappear… he will take a job as a lobbyist, chief of staff, or other position of influence. He will still do the bad things he does, and still be subject to compromise, and, therefore, could compromise his wife (knowingly or not).

So… I am certainly not suggesting she resign. It’s not her fault, after all. But based on the situation you postulate, the only real solution is to divorce his sorry ass, but we the people can’t (and shouldn’t) demand that either. Therefore, your Awesomeness… I agree he should resign, but don’t think that will mitigate the risk you expose.

Indeed, you will—because as a Congressman, he has access to all sorts of ears, access, and information. Once he resigns, he will maintain a little bit of popularity, but not enough to make him so valuable to wrongdoers. And that is being charitable: he is suffering from disassociation faster than whores flee a leper (or so we imagine). Some of his best pals are deleting his number from their cell phones: it will be interesting indeed if he can become a serious lobbyist or have any position of influence at this point—heck, a disgraced Republican can always go back to some board of directors, but a disgraced Democrat is eaten alive by liberals. He will wind up as a director of something for some non-profit leftist action group in the basement of some Manhattan low-rise. Or perhaps Queens.

At which point, he becomes the same, manageable security risk that all spouses of Really Important People become. But right now, he is an immeasurable risk.

The Czar of Muscovy

However, in 1283, our Czar was passed over due to a clerical error and the rule of all Russia went to his second cousin Daniil (Даниил Александрович), whom Czar still resents. As a half-hearted apology, the Czar was awarded control over Muscovy, inconveniently located 5,000 miles away just outside Chicago. He now spends his time seething about this and writing about other stuff that bothers him.
