The Czar Was Gonna See It Anyway…
This Sunday, we throw the kids in the armored train and take them to the mall to see Captain America. The Czar likes to go Sunday mornings because the theaters here are emptier, half price, and he really likes sitting in red velvet chairs.
We heard some weird stuff about this movie…that the production team was toning down the whole America thing so the movie would play better in foreign markets, and that old Cap would be a superhero fighting an opponent, not an American fighting man battling Nazis. Not from the production team…they havent said much at all…but from so-called Hollywood insiders.
But more and more, the Czar was hearing that this movie is most assuredly pro-American. Flags, soldiers, red, white, and blue. Recently, critical previews were assuring that this movie is definitely as USA as possibleand not in a smarmy, sarcastic way, but in a noble way, a dignified way, and a way that movies have not been made in a rather long time.
Now, people who have (ahem) seen bootleg copies (seriously, guys? That is so 2002) are confirming that this movie is as patriotic as ever. And one interesting pseudo-critic who is too cheap to pay $10 to see it legally stated that whole portions of this movie will certainly offend liberals.
We were going to see it anyway. But God bless the USA, whether or not the rumors are true. Review pending.
Божію Поспѣшествующею Милостію Мы, Дима Грозный Императоръ и Самодержецъ Всероссiйскiй, цѣсарь Московскiй. The Czar was born in the steppes of Russia in 1267, and was cheated out of total control of all Russia upon the death of Boris Mikhailovich, who replaced Alexander Yaroslav Nevsky in 1263. However, in 1283, our Czar was passed over due to a clerical error and the rule of all Russia went to his second cousin Daniil (Даниил Александрович), whom Czar still resents. As a half-hearted apology, the Czar was awarded control over Muscovy, inconveniently located 5,000 miles away just outside Chicago. He now spends his time seething about this and writing about other stuff that bothers him.
