What About An Obese Government?
Well, if you need any more evidence that Leftists want to take over every aspect of your life, here is yet one more that indicates utter cluelessness:
America’s obesity epidemic is so deeply rooted that it will take dramatic and systemic measures – from overhauling farm policies and zoning laws to, possibly, introducing a soda tax – to fix it, the influential Institute of Medicine said on Tuesday.
Come again?
Farm policies. Soda tax. Yes, yes, all common tropes we have heard from the Left before. But zoning laws?
[T]he IOM refutes the idea that obesity is largely the result of a lack of willpower on the part of individuals.
Perhaps not. Indeed, in many cases there is a medical component to it, but a medical component that the individual is welcome to pursue by a visit to a doctor, not from a government employee.
This is precisely the misuse of science that so offends the Right on the subject of global climate change. Okay, maybe, if not probably, there is science to support the premise. So how do we jump to the conclusion that zoning laws need to change? This is the same if A then Z thinking that always traces back to some Progressive campaign from the 1930s.
This of course makes the Czar an obesity denier. Or it will, once the Climate crowd loans its logic to the medical crowd. Just like a degree of warmth around the poles means that Americans have to give their money to Nigerian warlords to let the UN, using American funds, build solar generators there so that the warloads, already paid by American funds, do not steal the raw materials and sell them to North Korea.
Look, the whole thing is like this: Americans are becoming obese which means that the government needs to start an aggressive campaign to increase penalties for buying foods that a board determines encourage weight gain, and pay farmers not to grow food so that food prices go up (particularly for corn) which will severely cut back on the amount of calories the average person can purchase, followed by intense promotion of anti-fat bigotry and posters around the country to make obese people unhappy but remind them that medical science can help and so they should see their doctors.
See? All of this can be done quite easily without any government involvement whatsoever. But if you asked the Progressives behind this study to choose: (a) eliminate obesity or (b) increase the size of the government, they will have little or no interest in (a).
As always, the latest scientific study calls for expanded government is the only news here. Obesity has nothing to do with it, and never did.
Божію Поспѣшествующею Милостію Мы, Дима Грозный Императоръ и Самодержецъ Всероссiйскiй, цѣсарь Московскiй. The Czar was born in the steppes of Russia in 1267, and was cheated out of total control of all Russia upon the death of Boris Mikhailovich, who replaced Alexander Yaroslav Nevsky in 1263. However, in 1283, our Czar was passed over due to a clerical error and the rule of all Russia went to his second cousin Daniil (Даниил Александрович), whom Czar still resents. As a half-hearted apology, the Czar was awarded control over Muscovy, inconveniently located 5,000 miles away just outside Chicago. He now spends his time seething about this and writing about other stuff that bothers him.
