First Week of Advent Devotional
Dr. J. loves the season of Advent with sense of hope brought by the coming celebration of the birth of the Christ child.
Historically, he’s made a greater effort to attend the Saturday vigil during Advent. Don’t ask him why, but he suspects that Saturday night masses feel more Christmassy. Unfortunately Sunday School for the Lil Resident and Medstudent has shoehorned us into attending the 11:00AM mass since time immemorial. Furthermore, Christmas parties make hitting the Saturday vigil tricky as well.
Given his fondness for Advent, he will leave you weekly with a Saturday Devotional this Advent Season:
“Therefore I command mirth, because there is nothing good for man under the sun except eating and drinking and mirth: for this is the accompaniment of his toil during the limited days of the life which God gives him under the sun.” -Ecclesiastes 8:15
Heavenly Father, we thank you for the bounty you have blessed us with through out the year. We thank you for the food, drink, and fellowship we enjoy with friends and family this Christmas season as we are given the time to reflect and renew ties our loved ones. Let us remember and pray for those who are less fortunate then us, or are mourning the loss someone close to them this Christmas season. In Jesus name we pray. Amen
