Gosnell: Abortion Has No Defense
Over at Commentary, the great Jonathan Tobin suspects that an acquitted Kermit Gosnell will be a serious blow to womens health:
If Gosnell’s attorneys manage to convince a jury not to convict him, you can forget about any expectations that this case will lead to more scrutiny of clinics where late-term abortions are being conducted.
Perhaps. But Mr. Tobin also adds:
But if a jury is persuaded that the Gosnell prosecution is about race or an attempt to roll back Roe v. Wade, the impulse in the media as well as among a political class that largely wishes to avoid entanglement in this issue will be to forget about it, allowing any other Gosnells out there to go on killing babies and mistreating their patients with impunity.
Even if, as even most objective observers insist, what happened at one clinic in West Philadelphia is unimaginable at Planned Parenthood clinics, this trial ought to cause Americans to begin thinking about whether a politically-motivated lack of concern has created an opening for other Gosnells. One of the most powerful arguments for legalized abortion was always the certainty that whether or not they were allowed under the law, such procedures would continue to be performed. But what we have learned from the Gosnell case is that the horrors of back-alley abortions didn’t end when the Supreme Court ruled on Roe.
These are very logical scenarios indeed but are quite packed with nuances that will be lost on a sound-byte public.
As such, the pro-life movement should be quick to capitalize on any not guilty verdict. Ram this home: the government officially approved of a serial killer. Shocking? Absolutely it is, but possibly not too far off the mark. The point is, such a crazy comment will force an unaware or apathetic public to notice the story. So you have Kermit Gosnell, who butchered infants, killed at least one woman, and cut body parts off babies for some weird collection.
This will damn abortionists in the public eye. His lawyer, God save his soul, will argue these are wild conjectures, insane accusations, and totally without merit. So be it. But remember how the Left painted George W. Bush to be an idiot? Or Dick Cheney an evil genius? Or Sarah Palin as a fruitcake? Or Ronald Reagan as a dithering fool? None of these were with merit, but the story was better than whatever the truth was. Now you can ram the Gosnell trial down the Lefts throats and say the truth is unimportant: the perception is what matters.
And what matters is that Kermit Gosnell was a serial killer who got a free pass from the government to kill babies. Why? Because he claimed to be an abortionist.
By the way, the pro-life movement could continue, theres a lot of mounting evidence that Kermit Gosnell was hardly the only one. Turns out, a lot of abortionists seem to be serial killers…or are at least killing perfectly healthy babies after they survive botched abortions.
And if you have a couple of seconds, they could continue, you might realize that Planned Parenthood endorsed or at least permitted these serial killers to continue.
One more thing, they could add, did you know what Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger believed? And how Gosnell met all her goals?
Does this sound far-fetched? Well, not hardly: so far, there are thousands of people who were either pro-infanticide or at least impartial to abortion whoupon learning about Kermit Gosnellimmediately became pro-life champions. So far, the Czar has been unable to find a single case of someone who switched to the pro-abortion side after hearing about this creature.
Whether Kermit Gosnell goes to jail or goes scott-free is up to a horrified jury; but guilty or not, Gosnell is the embodiment of everything about abortion. His house of horrors is hardly unique, and is so revolting and so fulsome that even the smallest aspect of it can create a public abhorrence toward abortion.
Божію Поспѣшествующею Милостію Мы, Дима Грозный Императоръ и Самодержецъ Всероссiйскiй, цѣсарь Московскiй. The Czar was born in the steppes of Russia in 1267, and was cheated out of total control of all Russia upon the death of Boris Mikhailovich, who replaced Alexander Yaroslav Nevsky in 1263. However, in 1283, our Czar was passed over due to a clerical error and the rule of all Russia went to his second cousin Daniil (Даниил Александрович), whom Czar still resents. As a half-hearted apology, the Czar was awarded control over Muscovy, inconveniently located 5,000 miles away just outside Chicago. He now spends his time seething about this and writing about other stuff that bothers him.
