Another Take on the Zimmerman-Martin Case
GorT has been lax about posting recently – mostly due to being really busy at work, partially due to enjoying summer with friends & family, and somewhat due to not having much in the world that has really grabbed his attention. Maybe this is a bad sign that I’ve become acclimatized to the world events, but then again, I would offer that watching your local news, it’s generally been kind of a slow news cycle the last few weeks. Oh, but what about the Travon Martin and George Zimmerman case, you ask?
Here is my short answer to that, one that I’ve given in person to a number of people, “I don’t really care.”
It is my belief that this case garnered national attention for one reason: the attention hungry press – both conservative and liberal leaning – needed a new story to parade around. The press created a narrative around this that wrapped in the gun rights debate, civil rights, discrimination, race relations, etc. with a healthy dose of misrepresentation. For example, it has largely been cast as a white man shooting a black man but it was really a 28-year-old mixed-race Hispanic American man who fatally shot a 17-year-old African American. As ‘Puter points out, the Florida stand your ground law has been treated with similar clumsy, journalistic paws.
But, aside from the immediate people and community involved, why should we care? Don’t get me wrong – it’s a tragedy anytime anyone loses a life. But why this case grew or better yet, deserved to grow, to be anything more than a local crime story and trail still remains beyond me.
For example, there was a a quadruple shooting in DC on July 13th, two of which were teenagers where the shooters opened fire from a car driving by as the group played dominoes.
Nine people died in shootings in Chicago over the July 4th holiday weekend, including two boys ages 5 and 7.
A simple search on the web will turn up more cases probably even ones where the victims and attackers were of different races. I care ten times more for either of these two cases as the victims were clearly innocent than I care about the Martin-Zimmerman case.
GorT is an eight-foot-tall robot from the 51ˢᵗ Century who routinely time-travels to steal expensive technology from the future and return it to the past for retroinvention. The profits from this pay all the Gormogons’ bills, including subsidizing this website. Some of the products he has introduced from the future include oven mitts, the Guinness widget, Oxy-Clean, and Dr. Pepper. Due to his immense cybernetic brain, GorT is able to produce a post in 0.023 seconds and research it in even less time. Only ’Puter spends less time on research. GorT speaks entirely in zeros and ones, but occasionally throws in a ڭ to annoy the Volgi. He is a massive proponent of science, technology, and energy development, and enjoys nothing more than taking the Czar’s more interesting scientific theories, going into the past, publishing them as his own, and then returning to take credit for them. He is the only Gormogon who is capable of doing math. Possessed of incredible strength, he understands the awesome responsibility that follows and only uses it to hurt people.
