Expedition to the Plateau of Leng
Gentle Readers,
Dr. J.’s recent post in which he took the ‘Which D&D Character Are You’ was quite popular with the readers. Indeed, two of our operatives and two of Dr. J.’s old gaming mates took the quiz. As a consequence, Dr. J. requested that his fellow Gormogons, some of whom were gamers of old take the quiz. While most readily agreed, including ‘Puter who is on vacation, The Czar flat out refused stating he disemboweled gamers in school, back in the 980s.
So, Gentle Readers, Dr. J., will present to you the Gormogon Adventuring Company as they take up their Expedition to the Plateau of Leng
Every adventuring party needs henchmen, so our finest minions have availed themselves to take the quiz:
First, Operative SMR who writes:
To the August & Learned Dr. J-
I thank you for your gracious invitation to operatives, minions, cronies, and readers worldwide to share their analysis results with you.
I have been judged a Neutral Good Human Ranger/Wizard (4th/3rd Level).
SMR, take point! |
Ability Scores: Strength- 12; Dexterity- 14; Constitution- 12; Intelligence- 15; Wisdom- 15; Charisma- 14
I must confess that those judgments are not as meaningful to me as they will be to others as my participation in the fantasy world was driven primarily by a geometer’s love of regular geometric solids, shiny figurines, and blood. Ahh. Geometry! And fluid dynamics! I still recall with a thrill up my leg my first encounter with a hydraulic jump in the wild. But I digress. I remain, as always,
Your faithful minion, Operative SMR

It actually said ‘Wizard/Sorc’, which, since my charisma is low, is both silly and dumb. Still, a fascinating exercise
Dr. J.’s old gaming buddies chimed in as well. You want experienced henchmen and not just cannon fodder.

Now that’s a ranger. Neutral Good Elf Ranger (6th Level)
Ability Scores: Strength- 17 Dexterity- 18 Constitution- 16 Intelligence- 18 Wisdom- 13 Charisma- 14
SWK wrote:
This friend’s a bookworm. Lawful Neutral Human Wizard (6th Level)
Ability Scores: Strength- 9 Dexterity- 15 Constitution- 11 Intelligence- 17 Wisdom- 16 Charisma- 11
What’s remarkable about this quiz pretty much nails Dr. J.’s chums. JTC’s an outdoorsy guy and given his outsider personality, Dr. J. would have suspected he would have been an half-elven chaotic good ranger, but this was impressively close. SWK is introverted, rather intellectual and cherishes order above all else. He is slow to anger but his wrath is swift and brutal when he’s provoked. He is his quiz result.
Now that we’ve defined our minions and kobold fodder, it is time to discuss the main adventuring party.
You know about yours truly, but in the event that you forgot:
Dr. J. has a healing touch, but he can bring the lightning when need be. He also looks awesome in robes. |
Dr. J. – Dr. J.’s a church going papist, a doctor, and loves to smash things with his trusty mace. He’s the cleric, no doubt.
Dr. J. is A: Neutral Good Human Cleric (6th Level)
Ability Scores: Strength-11 Dexterity-15 Constitution-11 Intelligence-19 Wisdom-16 Charisma-15
Klaatu, Barada and the Nikto way! |
GorT – Every party must have someone who can swing a sword. In our case, we’re graced with GorT who comes with his own shiny titanium armor. Given his sense of order and fair play, any doubt he’d be a paladin rather than a fighter. Also his refined tastes and sensibilities is probably how he was determined to be an elf, as it certainly wasn’t his height. After all, he’s the only Gormogon not to enjoy the Maxwell Street Polish at Portillo’s.
Lawful Good Elf Paladin (6th Level)
Ability Scores: Strength- 13 Dexterity- 15 Constitution- 15 Intelligence- 18 Wisdom- 18 Charisma- 15
Ladies love the polymath with the polyglot! |
孔夫子 (Confucius), the Œcumenical Volgi (The Notorious ŒV) – For those of you who read the Volgi’s posts and his prolific tweets, he knows everything about just about everything, AND he knows it in multiple tongues. A Bard/Wizard split class suits both the breadth and depth of his knowledge.
Neutral Good Human Bard/Wizard (3rd/2nd Level)
Ability Scores: Strength- 12 Dexterity- 14 Constitution- 14 Intelligence- 19 Wisdom- 15 Charisma- 14
Aw crap, the boots are off… |
The Inscrutable Mandarin – With his Boot-to-the-Gut™and his wiry but strong frame, Mandy is the Gormogon who looks most like his avatar. Indeed, any of you who knew Mandy in real life would say, yeah…Monk, well, except for the fact that he’s eschewed the aesthetic life for Mrs. Mandy, Mandy Jr. and a sweet ride, a green Fiero if Dr. J. recalls correctly…
Lawful Neutral Human Monk (5th Level)
Ability Scores: Strength- 15 Dexterity- 14 Constitution- 16 Intelligence- 16 Wisdom- 16 Charisma- 15
He’s a smiter, not a lover… |
Now we move to ‘Puter – Yeah, didn’t see this one coming…he is very pious, and logical and orderly in his thinking, when he’s on his meds at least…a Jesuit educated lawyer? Well he does stick up for the little guy and believe’s in the law, rules and fair play. He’ll get all ELEV@NTY!!2! on your ass, but still didn’t see it coming.
Lawful Good Human Paladin/Cleric (3rd/2nd Level)
Ability Scores: Strength- 12 Dexterity- 12 Constitution- 13 Intelligence- 19 Wisdom- 13 Charisma- 14
Were you expecting Wendell Wilkie? |
Now this brings us to The Czar – The Czar refused to play as he stuffed RPGers in lockers back in high school in the 980s. So, Dr. J., in true RPG fashion, took the quiz for The Czar…and yet another Paladin, but a Paladin Sorcerer this time…lets see…likes to drink…good at putting things together….fiercely loyal…loves him some weaponry…ok…it was that or casting him as an AMC AMX.
Lawful Good Human Paladin/Sorcerer (3rd/2nd Level)
Ability Scores: Strength- 15 Dexterity- 17 Constitution- 19 Intelligence- 18 Wisdom- 18 Charisma- 14
So there you have it…your Gormogons as a D&D adventuring party…Three paladin types, a cleric, a monk and a bard…looks like we can handle just about everything, well everything short of a demi-lich….
Some of our results were total surprises (‘Puter, Czar?) The rest of us, well that makes sense.
Thank y’all for playing!
