At the Leaping Peacock the other night, BG and the Czar were discussing the political affiliation of a white supremacist when Borepatch walked up and sat down.
Borepatch nodded to BG, turned to the Czar, and said, Nice post the other day about racial tensions in America worsening under Obama.
One thought it triggered was that it will be a long time before the Republic elects another African American to the Presidency. Perhaps more than anything, Obamas single accomplishment is to destroy trust in government and politicians. The next time an African American positions himself as a moderate, theres quite a good chance that people will see him as just like Obama and take a pass, even if he is an actual moderate.
I look forward to the analyses of the Obama presidency after hes done and the Intellectual Left starts to actually assess things. One thing about Obamas entire career that stands out is how everything hes done has been tactically focused, as opposed to strategic. He has been driven by short-term advantage, gaining a place and then not doing much with it other than looking towards the next place (cf: Harvard Law Review). This likely has ingrained in him a tendency to ignore the long term consequences of his decisions. The consequence of race relations is only one of these.
Well, that would explain a whole lot of his presidency, нет?
Да! the Czar answered. In fact, your comment that it will likely be a while before another viable black candidate emerges from the Left is stunning. Absolutely, we agree. Probably magazine articles will be written wondering whatever happened, and the explanation is right there in your prediction.
And further, there is little question that honest historians are going to eviscerate the Obama presidency for what it is. He is a small man riding a big wave, and like the kid in the front seat of the car, he thinks hes been doing all the driving.
Was a long night. And fortunately none of us was driving. Which meant an even longer night back at the Castle.
Божію Поспѣшествующею Милостію Мы, Дима Грозный Императоръ и Самодержецъ Всероссiйскiй, цѣсарь Московскiй. The Czar was born in the steppes of Russia in 1267, and was cheated out of total control of all Russia upon the death of Boris Mikhailovich, who replaced Alexander Yaroslav Nevsky in 1263. However, in 1283, our Czar was passed over due to a clerical error and the rule of all Russia went to his second cousin Daniil (Даниил Александрович), whom Czar still resents. As a half-hearted apology, the Czar was awarded control over Muscovy, inconveniently located 5,000 miles away just outside Chicago. He now spends his time seething about this and writing about other stuff that bothers him.
