Hearts and Minds
A hot microphone captured Senator Rand Paul expressing with some incredulity that Republicans might actually triumph in this shutdown nonsense.
Why not.
You have a president begging Americans not to give up on Obamacare, which is a complete reversal of his fantastic insistence that this incredibly unpopular law is something we all want.
The Main Stream Media is eager to convince us that most Republicans in Congress are ready to concede the fight, while simultaneously promoting the idea that most Republicans in Congress are not ready to concede. The only reason for the paradox? There isnt a paradox at alljust a recognition by the media that this shutdown isnt going the way the Democrats were hoping.
Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel is throwing the towel, asking civilian Pentagon workers to come on back to work.
Worse, the news coming out of the House has been well-received by the public, since the Republicans voted to ensure furloughed workers get back pay.
Even Barack Obama is complaining that he is getting blame for the shutdown. Him! Of all people! What is wrong with America that people blame him for being the chief executive? L’horreur!
No, this is not the tolling bell for the Democrats; they are not seconds away from caving in. But basically, all the Republicans have to do is not screw up, and the Democrats will wind up looking worse and worse. Most of the attention has been on Congress arguing with each other, but most people associate Congress with arguing anyway.
The problem for the Democrats is that Barack Obama is being seen as the guy behind the World War II Memorial closure, the closures of non-federal businesses, the prevention of Catholic masses being said on military bases, and other travesties of leadership.
Small surprise that that polls show a drop in Presidential approvals anywhere between -5 and -7 points since the start of the shutdown. His approval ratings are now down to the same levels they were after the Benghazi attack.
Right now, in some two bedroom home, a guy is sitting in his chair staring at the bleak news coming from his television. This guy loathes Obama and the Democrats, and hates the alien bullcrap happening to this country. He identifies as a conservative because he dislikes big government, loves his firearms, and says he supports his church. But he didnt vote in the last election because, frankly, Mitt Romney didnt excite him as much.
There are millions of copies of this guy all over the country.
Божію Поспѣшествующею Милостію Мы, Дима Грозный Императоръ и Самодержецъ Всероссiйскiй, цѣсарь Московскiй. The Czar was born in the steppes of Russia in 1267, and was cheated out of total control of all Russia upon the death of Boris Mikhailovich, who replaced Alexander Yaroslav Nevsky in 1263. However, in 1283, our Czar was passed over due to a clerical error and the rule of all Russia went to his second cousin Daniil (Даниил Александрович), whom Czar still resents. As a half-hearted apology, the Czar was awarded control over Muscovy, inconveniently located 5,000 miles away just outside Chicago. He now spends his time seething about this and writing about other stuff that bothers him.
