The other day, Dr. J. left a copy of The New York Post in the Cafetorium, and pointed out that Gormogon sleeper agent John Podhoretz wrote a piece there entitled Conservative Media is Unintentionally Protecting Obama. Within, Mr. Podhoretz writes that the liberal media are sort of looking away from Obama administration scandals because the conservative media are (are, NYP; media = plural, even in the 21st Century) covering these scandal stories:

Ironically, the mainstream media heavyweights may feel liberated from the responsibility of covering Obama administration malfeasances because of the existence of the alternative conservative media that have arisen over the past 20 years — talk radio, Fox News, and multiple websites.

Mainstream media types loathe the conservative media as much as the conservative media loathe them. The mainstream thinks conservative media are hysterical, ideologically driven by bad or stupid or evil ideas, and are simply after liberal scalps. They do not want to join those they consider jackals.

But the conservative media serve a second purpose, not only for their audiences but for the mainstream. The existence of the Right media means that the stories are being covered by someone, which relieves them of some of the responsibility they might otherwise feel to do the job themselves.

Even better, from their point of view, they also believe the stories are being covered in such a way that the mainstream media can dismiss them and attack them.

The latter sentence is certainly clear, but the preceding paragraph makes no sense.

The liberal media are not under the assumption that the conservatives have this handled; rather, the liberal media thinks that because the Right is covering a story, it ought to be ignored for the wrong-headed piece of goo that it is. The Left religiously believes in its own Righteousness; anything the Right produces, therefore, is either in agreement with the Left or total heresy best ignored.

Further, this position denies—almost excuses—the willful cover-up perpetrated by the Left media. Yes, stories are actively suppressed by the Left. By ignoring them, the Left is thereby able to prevent their spread. Right-wing thinking is a disease to the Left, for which the only cure is containment and eradication.

All of the examples Mr. Podhoretz lists can be explained by the Czar’s explanation, and what’s more, the Czar’s explanation covers more stories as well: in addition to hiding Obama-era scandals, Right-wing victories can be hidden as well. Our readers already know the dire straits Democrat Senators are in for 2014; mainstream readers do not. Gun control efforts are failing across the country; our readers know this, but again, mainstream readers do not. And so on.

This was a strange piece for John Podhoretz to write: the whole piece seems to refute the headline’s premise. No, the mainstream media are not depending on Right wing media to sustain the Obama presidency; instead, all these examples continue to show that the Mainstream Media are the de facto propaganda arm of the Democratic party.

The Czar of Muscovy

The Czar was born in the steppes of Russia in 1267, and was cheated out of total control of all Russia upon the death of Boris Mikhailovich, who replaced Alexander Yaroslav Nevsky in 1263. However, in 1283, our Czar was passed over due to a clerical error and the rule of all Russia went to his second cousin Daniil (Даниил Александрович), whom Czar still resents. As a half-hearted apology, the Czar was awarded control over Muscovy, inconveniently located 5,000 miles away just outside Chicago. He now spends his time seething about this and writing about other stuff that bothers him.
