The Katrina Presidency
On the one hand, we get a note from Boneman:
| Oh powerful and feared Czar, Your minion, Boneman, humbly suggests that those who think Dear Leader somehow doesn’t understand or appreciate the ongoing southern invasion and how to deal with it don’t understand Dear Leader and his phalanx of progressive boot licks. Boneman firmly believes Dear Leader intentionally lit the fuse on this hot mess to bring in millions of undocumented Democrats immigrants, peppering them around the nation then having them blend into the populace. Plus, many of them are “chirlins” and we HAVE TO HELP them don’t we?? Just ask Pelosi. The humanity of it all, blah, blah. Oh, and this jives perfectly with Dear Leader’s desire to knock the Good Old USA down a few pegs, bring in needy people to whom he can give free stuff and thus guarantee their enslavement to the Progressive State. Boneman believes that anyone who thinks Obama was caught off guard by this steaming mess doesn’t understand what’s really going on. On another note, Boneman way over smoked some ribs this weekend and has had indigestion for three days. |

And, to be sure, the current political situation in the U.S. is more akin to war than a disagreement over whether Starbuck’s coffee is better than Dunkin’s. The Democrats know this is a war. They are fighting it as a war: they stick together, speak the same “talking points”, and go on the attack whenever they see an opening. Republicans have not yet fully absorbed that we are at war. They have not yet fully acknowledged that “being nice” has not won them an important federal election by an overwhelming majority since 2006. Even the 2010 “shellacking” was a marginal victory and provided control over only one house of Congress. Obama’s political strength comes from his party’s unwillingness to stand apart from him, to tell him that his policies are damaging America, and that he must change direction. Indeed, Democrats tell Obama, “Damn the torpedoes – full speed ahead!”. |
Well, that’s basically it. Possibilities exist to explain the President’s non-response to the immigration issue:
- He doesn’t understand this is a problem. Not likely, since he’s been talking about immigration reform for a while. And whenever the President feels he’s being ignored, suddenly a convenient catastrophe happens that forces the issue. Maybe not in his favor—indeed, his mismanagement guarantees it—but the timing is always perfect.
- He understands this is a problem but doesn’t know whether he should do something. Possible, but not likely, since the media is basically hollering at him to do something, as are a growing number of Democrats in those states. Heck, Democrats in the larger cities are hollering at him to do something because their cities are being negatively hit by the immigration. Witness Chicago, where the Democrats are pissed that he’s neglecting them. Incredible.
- He understands this is a problem but doesn’t want to do anything. Maybe. He seems awfully distracted, disjointed, and a little disoriented lately. Some people wonder if he’s given up trying. That’s a fair point.
- He thinks this fits perfectly into his plans. This is possible, and Operative BJ would agree. Indeed, Boneman expresses this is all part of the deal. The Czar is inclined to agree: but with a proviso.
That provision is that while Obama thinks he lit the fuse on this in order to force the issue, the reality is that he is in no way in control of it. Like so many of his urgencies of now, it turns out he had no clue how fast the dominoes would fall. Like Pandora, he had all the warnings in the world not to open the box, and when he did, the evils will not go back into the box.
The MSM is calling this his Katrina moment—but that’s dead wrong. A Katrina moment, as we understand the phrase, is a failure to acknowledge how serious a problem is and then to act far too late to do any good. But Obama knows this is serious, and is indeed acting by doing nothing: an attempt at a Taoist wu wei, maybe, but more like a Cloward-Piven “let the system collapse.”
His entire presidency has been a Katrina moment. This is a little man who is deluded into thinking he’s LeBron, baby: that he is in control and the whole world bends its knee to his will. Like most academics, he fails to understand his theory does not mesh with our practice. Remember: in theory, theory works.
Boneman and BJ will have no argument from the Czar here. But the Czar might suggest that while the problem began as part of Obama’s plan, nothing is presently going along with his plan. In the end, everyone—Republicans, Democrats, and illegals—will suffer for his idiocy.

However, in 1283, our Czar was passed over due to a clerical error and the rule of all Russia went to his second cousin Daniil (Даниил Александрович), whom Czar still resents. As a half-hearted apology, the Czar was awarded control over Muscovy, inconveniently located 5,000 miles away just outside Chicago. He now spends his time seething about this and writing about other stuff that bothers him.
