Noble Savages
Operative BJ offers an explanation as to why the American Left hates Israel:
| Your Majesty, Israelis are, for the most part, descendants of Europeans. White Europeans. Palestinians are, for the most part, Arabic, indigenous to the area, and are not descendants of White Europeans. Now to the racist component of the Israeli-Palestinian situation. And, yes, it’s very ugly indeed. The racist component isn’t that the descendants of White Europeans are attacking brown-skinned Arabs. The racist component is that the descendants of White Europeans – and this includes Americans and Europeans – can’t believe or refuse to believe that brown-skinned Arabs are capable of this level of deceit. That brown-skinned Arabs can be the aggressors. That brown-skinned Arabs can be at fault in this situation. That brown-skinned Arabs can be as racist and as evil, or maybe more racist and more evil, than the descendants of White Europeans. And the American media, which is full of self-loathing and hatred of America, is the best evidence of this. Why else would they use pictures of wounded and dead brown-skinned Arabs when reporting news about Palestinians from Gaza, and use pictures of tanks and soldiers in uniform when reporting news about Israelis from Gaza? “Look at those white people attacking those brown people! How horrible!!” We have been conditioned to believe that only America and Americans are capable of deceit, cheating, lying, and starting wars. But, if we know *for a fact* that thousands of rockets were fired by brown-skinned Arabs into a land populated by the descendants of White Europeans, then why are we blaming the Israelis for finally saying “ENOUGH” and taking action to defend themselves against Arab attack? The fact that Israelis are Jewish merely adds fuel to the fire. “Who cares? They’re Jews. Hand me another rocket, Muhammad.” |
Umm, yeah. This is pretty much it.
Let us explain something about the Left that BJ understands: the Myth of the Noble Savage. Throughout liberal popular culture, there exists a notion that primative peoples have a special wisdom, or a spiritual insight, that ranks as pure and meaningful as anything any other culture came up with.
Here’s the truth: people have always been intelligent, smart, and wise. Yes, they may have been ignorant (the ancient Egyptians did not understand that stars are light years away), but they weren’t stupid (they built the freaking pyramids using pretty advanced math). So that part is true.
Where the Left goes off the rails is in the assumption that White Europeans and their cousins are so sophisticated, refined, and classy that they can no longer appreciate this fact. Americans, for example, cannot see that blacks, Indians, and Arabs have a rich, vibrant culture chock-full of great stuff.
And that, interestingly enough, is the racist component: the assumption that all white people are aristocratic degenerates. It takes a special kind of racism to fake appreciation for the nobility of these peoples, but never forgetting that they are simultaneously savages.
Following from this is the more racist component, which is never more than a hand-width away from the Myth of the Noble Savage: because we are such aristocratic degenerates, it is our responsibility—nay, our duty—to take care of these brown-skinned peoples. To help them, shepherd them, and guide them toward positive solutions. You know: make them less savagey. Because, ultimately, you know they are savages.
And Israel is failing to do that: they are neglecting the noble part, and not treating them like savages but like…well, like opponents in some war. Don’t the Israelis realize that they need to take care of these folks by giving them the tools they need to mollify them?
This is how idiotic the situation is. And once again, polls—whatever they are worth—show the American people think the Israelis have had enough and are finally cleaning up the mess. Rather than this be new story, we get headlines like Israel Kills 10 in Public School instead of Israel Kills 10 Terrorists Hiding in School.
There may not ever be a noble savage: but there certainly are ignorant schmucks. And we know where they are.
