Maybe I’m too smart for my own good.  Here’s the directions on the census form:<\/p>\n

Before you answer Question 1, count the people living in this house, apartment, or mobile home using our guidelines.  Count all people, including babies, who live and sleep here most of the time.<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Ok, got it. There are some more qualifications about those in the military, prison, college, etc.  Now, onto the questions (I’m so excited – it’s so easy and confidential).<\/p>\n

1.  How many people were living or staying in this house, apartment, or mobile home on April 1, 2010?<\/i>
Number of people = [   ]<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

No, problem.  I can count.  There’s 7 here: ‘Puter, The Czar, The Mandarin, Volgi, Dat Ho, Sleestak and myself.<\/p>\n

2.  Were there any additional<\/u>people staying here April 1, 2010 that you did not include<\/u> in Question 1?  Mark [x] all that apply:<\/i>
[ ] Children, such as newborn babies or foster children<\/i>
[ ] Relatives, such as adult children, cousins or in-laws?<\/i>
[ ] Nonrelatives, such as roomates or live-in baby sitters<\/i>
[ ] People staying here temporarily<\/i>
[ ] No additional people<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Whoa!  Wait a minute.  Didn’t the directions say to count all of these people in the house, including babies?  They gave me guidelines that if they have no place else to stay to count them, so it isn’t those people.  It’s not those in the military, nursing homes, jail, etc. as we shouldn’t be counting them.  So what children, newborns or foster children could be staying (defined as “living and sleeping here most of the time”) in this house? 
And, if the relatives have their own homes, then they’ll be getting census forms themselves that, as the envelope points out, they must fill out by law.  If they have no place to stay, again, I’ve already counted them in Question 1.<\/p>\n

Roommates and live-in baby sitters?  Again, don’t they count as “all people, including babies, who live and sleep here most of the time”?
Finally, “People staying here temporarily” means what?  They don’t live here “most of the time” and they don’t live somewhere else that would be censused because that would mean we’re double-counting.  About the only cases I can think of is that these people are on the lam – they’re not “in jail” literally speaking so by the directions, I shouldn’t ignore them and they don’t “live and sleep here most of the time” and they don’t plan on returning to jail anytime soon.<\/p>\n
