I know the camo pants are just Public Enemy-inspired (fascist) fashion, but seeing young men in vaguely paramilitary garb praising the Leader is way, way, way too close to this.<\/p>\n

Before you object, “Hey, look, self-discipline and ambition are what we’re trying to instill in today’s troubled African-American youth,” well, duh, all youth could use those things. But doing so in a leader-cult fueled by feel-good platitudes? We’ve been there before.<\/p>\n

<\/param><\/param><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n

Obama (PBUH) is not Hitler. But the idea that fascism is an unnatural one-off tendency, rather than a hypertrophism of certain parts of human nature is very dangerous. We’re not at “it could happen here” territory yet, but the uncritical embrace of all this hagiolatry is deeply worrisome. Where are Stewart, Colbert, Letterman, et al., pricking this particular balloon of idiotic regard?<\/p>\n

UPDATE:<\/span> Jonah Goldberg notes the black-frat stylistic connection<\/a>. Too true. That should have occurred to your Volgi. Not that it changes his analysis; that kind of pseudo-militaristic drill-team activity is a lot scarier when invoking the name of a political leader than expressing solidarity with a charitable-fraternal organization (even when you brand an \u03a9 on your arm\u2014brothers of blood and thunder, represent!<\/span>).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
